Flights Toronto to Amritsar: Your One-Stop Guide for GTA Families

Flights Toronto to Amritsar Your One-Stop Guide for GTA Families

There is no non-stop from Pearson to Amritsar. Here is how the one-stop routes work, and how to pick the right one for your family.

Quick answer: can I fly Toronto to Amritsar without a stop?

No. As of September 2026 there is no non-stop flight from Toronto to Amritsar. Most travellers fly with one stop. The most common way is a non-stop from Toronto Pearson to Delhi, then a short domestic flight to Amritsar. Other options connect through Doha or through the UK. Total travel time is usually around 18 to 26 hours or more, depending on the airline and the layover. For December trips, book early.

Why there is no non-stop, and why that is okay

communities outside India. So it surprises many people that no airline flies Toronto to Amritsar non-stop.

The reason is simple. Amritsar’s airport, Sri Guru Ram Das Ji International, is smaller than Delhi or Mumbai. Its international flights mostly go to the Gulf, Southeast Asia and the UK. Long-haul flights from Canada land in Delhi or Mumbai instead.

The good news is that one stop is all you need. With the right connection, you can leave Pearson in the evening and be in Amritsar the next day, or the day after, depending on the route.

How it works

Good to know

Delhi (DEL)

Non-stop Toronto to Delhi with Air Canada or Air India, then a domestic flight to Amritsar

The most popular choice. The longest leg is done in one go. Leave time for immigration and the domestic transfer in Delhi.

Doha (DOH)

Toronto to Doha, then Qatar Airways to Amritsar

You clear Indian immigration in Amritsar, not Delhi. Many families like arriving straight into Punjab.

UK (London Gatwick or Birmingham)

Toronto to the UK, then Air India’s non-stop to Amritsar

Air India flies Amritsar from both UK airports. Check how the ticket is issued and any transit rules for the UK.

Other Gulf and European hubs

Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Frankfurt and others

These often need a second connection in India, so they can take longer. Worth comparing when the main routes are full.

6 tips for booking Toronto to Amritsar flights

1. Book December and January trips now

Christmas break, New Year and Lohri in mid-January are the busiest weeks for Punjab trips from the GTA. The better fares go first. If you are planning a winter visit, late September to October is a good time to lock it in.

2. Keep the whole trip on one ticket

If your Delhi to Amritsar flight is on the same booking as your long-haul flight, the airline has to help you if the first flight is late. Two separate tickets means you carry that risk yourself. We always try to book the full journey together.

3. Give yourself a proper layover in Delhi

In Delhi you clear immigration, collect your bags and check in again for the domestic flight. A very short connection can be stressful, especially with children or elderly parents. We usually suggest a few hours of buffer.

4. Plan around winter fog

From December to January, thick fog in North India can delay flights, mostly in the early morning. A midday or afternoon connection to Amritsar can be a calmer choice. Keep your phone charged and your airline app handy.

5. Compare Doha against Delhi

Sometimes flying through Doha costs less or takes less time. Sometimes Delhi wins. It changes week to week. Ask us to compare both for your dates.

6. Students and teachers: use MannPass

Verified students and education staff in Canada can join MannPass for free. It takes $25 off selected return flights between Canada and India, including Amritsar. It is valid for 30 days, can be renewed, and can’t be combined with other offers.

Arriving at Amritsar airport

Sri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport (ATQ) is at Raja Sansi, about 11 km from central Amritsar. It is a compact, easy airport, which is a relief after a long trip.

  • Getting into the city: Most families are picked up by relatives. Taxis are also available. At about 11 km, the Golden Temple is a short drive away.

  • Arriving via Delhi? You will have cleared immigration in Delhi, so Amritsar is a simple domestic arrival.

  • Arriving from Doha or the UK? You clear immigration and customs in Amritsar itself.

Onward to Jalandhar, Ludhiana or villages in Majha and Doaba: Plan the road trip for daylight in winter, when fog is heavy at night.

Travelling with family from Brampton and the GTA

Most of our Toronto to Amritsar bookings are families: parents taking children to meet grandparents, or grandparents coming home after a long visit in Canada. A few practical things help a lot.

  • Book everyone on one booking. Seats stay together and changes are simpler.

  • Ask about wheelchair help and special meals. We can request these for elderly parents when we book, including at the Delhi transfer.

  • Check baggage allowances before you pack gifts. Allowances vary by airline and fare, and the domestic leg can have different rules.

  • Check your documents early. Canadian passport holders need an Indian visa or an OCI card. Read our Indian e-Visa guide for Canadians, and check travel.gc.ca for the Government of Canada’s current travel advice.

  • Pack for a cold Punjab winter. December and January mornings can be chilly and foggy. Warm layers are a must, especially for children.
