Flights Toronto to Ahmedabad: A Simple Route Guide for Gujarati Families

Flights Toronto to Ahmedabad A Simple Route Guide for Gujarati Families

No non-stop flight, but plenty of good one-stop ways home. Here is how the route works, how long it takes, and how to book it well for winter.

Quick answer: is there a non-stop flight from Toronto to Ahmedabad?
No. As of October 2026, no airline flies non-stop from Toronto Pearson to Ahmedabad. Every option is one-stop. The quickest way is usually a non-stop to Delhi with Air India or Air Canada, then a short domestic hop to Ahmedabad. Emirates, Etihad and Qatar Airways also fly to Ahmedabad through their Gulf hubs. Expect roughly 19 to 23 hours door to door. For winter travel, book two to three months ahead and stay flexible by a day or two.

Why so many Toronto families fly this route

Brampton, Mississauga and Scarborough are home to some of the largest Gujarati communities outside India. Walk through a plaza on Queen Street in Brampton or along Eglinton in Scarborough and you will hear Gujarati at the counter.

So every year, thousands of GTA families go home to Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot and the villages in between. For weddings, for Navratri and Diwali, for a parent’s health, or simply because it has been too long.

We book this route all year round. Here is what we tell our own customers.

Your one-stop options from Toronto to Ahmedabad

With no non-stop flight, your choice comes down to where you stop. There are three sensible ways to go.

Route

Airlines

Approx. total time

Good to know

Via Delhi

Air India (non-stop to Delhi, then Air India to Ahmedabad); Air Canada to Delhi, then a domestic connection

19 to 22 hours

Usually the fastest. Air India sells Toronto to Ahmedabad on one ticket, so your bags are checked through.

Via the Gulf

Emirates (Dubai), Etihad (Abu Dhabi), Qatar Airways (Doha)

19 to 24 hours

All three fly straight into Ahmedabad. Good service, generous baggage and often more departure times to choose from.

Via London

Toronto to London, then Air India to Ahmedabad

20 to 24 hours

Handy if you want a stopover with family in the UK. Often two separate tickets, so allow a long connection.

Times are approximate and depend on the connection length. We always check the layover before we book you. Two hours is tight for an international connection. Three to four hours is comfortable, especially with children or parents in wheelchairs.

How long does Toronto to Ahmedabad really take?

The non-stop Toronto to Delhi flight is about 14 to 16 hours, depending on the direction and the airspace in use that day. Delhi to Ahmedabad is about an hour and a half in the air. Add the connection, and you are looking at a journey of roughly 19 to 22 hours.

Gulf routes are a bit longer in the air but can be easier on the body. A 13-hour leg to Dubai, a walk and a coffee, then a three-hour hop to Ahmedabad.

Flying back is often an hour or two longer against the wind. Plan your return so you have a day to rest before work or school.

When to book for winter travel

Winter is peak season on this route. Diwali in early November starts it, the wedding season carries it through, and the Ontario winter school break in late December is the busiest stretch of all. Families want to swap minus ten in Brampton for a warm Gujarat afternoon, and seats go early.

Our simple rule: book two to three months ahead for November to January travel. If you are reading this in early October and want to fly in December, book now.

Six tips for booking this route well

1. Compare the stop, not just the price

A fare that is $80 cheaper but has a seven-hour layover is not a bargain with two children. Look at total journey time and the time of arrival in Ahmedabad.

2. Fly midweek if you can

Tuesday and Wednesday departures from Pearson are usually a little cheaper than Friday and Sunday. The same goes for your return.

3. Check the baggage allowance before you compare fares

Most full-service airlines on this route include two checked bags in economy, but it varies by fare type. A low fare with one bag can cost more once you add the second.

4. Book everyone on one booking

It keeps the family seated together and makes changes much simpler if a plan shifts.

5. Sort your visa or OCI early

Canadian passport holders need an Indian e-Visa unless they hold an OCI card. Apply through the official Indian visa website. Your passport needs at least six months’ validity from your arrival date and two blank pages.

6. Students and teachers: use MannPass

Verified students and education staff in Canada can join MannPass for $25 off selected return flights between Canada and India. It is valid for 30 days, renewable, and cannot be combined with other offers.

Arriving at Ahmedabad airport and getting home to your town

Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (airport code AMD) handles international arrivals through Terminal 2. Immigration can be slow when two or three long-haul flights land close together, so keep your e-Visa printout or OCI card handy and have the address you are staying at written down.

Most families are met by relatives. If not, prepaid taxis are available in the arrivals hall and are the simplest option after a long flight.

Going beyond Ahmedabad? Roughly, Vadodara and Anand are about two hours by road, Surat and Rajkot about four. Trains run often from Ahmedabad Junction. If your family is in Surat or Vadodara, ask us whether a one-stop fare into those cities works better for your dates.

Travelling as a family

  • Request wheelchair assistance when you book. It is free, and it makes the Delhi or Dubai connection far easier for older parents.

  • Ask for Indian vegetarian or Jain meals at booking time, not at the airport.

  • Carry a change of clothes for the kids and your medications in your hand luggage.

  • Pack for two seasons. It may be snowing at Pearson and 30 degrees in Ahmedabad. Wear the coat on the plane and leave room in the carry-on.

  • Check the latest travel advice for India at travel.gc.ca before you leave.
