There is no non-stop flight, but there are three good ways to get there. Here is how they compare, what the journey really takes, and how to land ready for family.
Quick answer: how do I fly from Vancouver to Bengaluru?
There is no non-stop flight from Vancouver to Bengaluru. Most travellers choose one of three routes: non-stop Vancouver–Delhi then a domestic flight south, a one-stop via an Asian hub such as Hong Kong, Singapore or Tokyo, or a route through a Gulf hub. Plan on roughly 20 to 28 hours door to door, depending on the connection. Fares start from CAD $1,030 per person (checked 7 October 2026, prices change daily). Book both legs on one ticket so your bags and your connection are protected.
Why there is no non-stop flight from Vancouver to Bengaluru
Bengaluru is one of the busiest Indian cities for travellers from British Columbia. Kannada families in Surrey, Burnaby and Abbotsford. Tech workers whose teams sit in Whitefield or Electronic City. Students at BC universities whose parents live in Jayanagar or Malleshwaram. Yet no airline flies the route non-stop.
The reason is simple. The Vancouver–India non-stop market is built around Delhi. Bengaluru sits far to the south, and demand from Vancouver alone is not yet enough for a direct service. For now, every trip has at least one stop, and the trick is choosing the right one. Pick the right hub and you can be at the family door about a day after leaving YVR.
Three ways to fly Vancouver to Bengaluru
Here are the routes we book most often for BC travellers, and who each one suits.
Route | Stops | Typical total journey | Best for | Keep in mind |
Via Delhi (non-stop Vancouver–Delhi, then domestic to Bengaluru) | 1 | Around 20 to 24 hours | Shortest flying time, families with young children | You clear immigration in Delhi and may need to collect bags before the domestic leg. Book both flights on one ticket. |
Via an Asian hub (Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo and similar) | 1 | Around 22 to 27 hours | Comfortable layover airports, good with kids and older parents | Layover lengths vary a lot. Check the gap before you book. |
Via a Gulf hub | Usually 2 from Vancouver | Around 26 to 32 hours | Flexible dates, sometimes lower fares, easy add-on to Kochi or Chennai | Longer trip overall. Suits travellers who put price ahead of speed. |
Timings are approximate. Treat them as a guide, not a promise.
How long does the journey really take?
The flying time matters less than the total. A non-stop Vancouver–Delhi flight is roughly 14 to 15 hours. Delhi to Bengaluru adds about three hours in the air. Add the connection and you are at 20 hours or more.
Asian hubs work differently. The first leg across the Pacific is shorter, the second leg to Bengaluru is longer, and the layover decides the rest. A two-hour connection is tight. A five-hour connection is comfortable. A twelve-hour one is a day lost.
Many flights into Bengaluru land late at night or very early in the morning. Good for traffic, less good for grandparents waiting up. Tell your family your real arrival time, including the drive.
One ticket or two? Protect your connection
This is the question we get asked most on this route. It is tempting to book Vancouver–Delhi on one booking and a cheap domestic flight on another. Sometimes it looks like it saves money. It often does not.
On a single through ticket, the airline is responsible for getting you to Bengaluru. If the first flight is late, they rebook you. Your checked bags are usually tagged all the way, and your international baggage allowance usually applies to the domestic leg too. We explain that in our guide to baggage allowance from Canada to India.
On two separate tickets, a delay is your problem. You may need to buy a new domestic fare at the airport, and a low-cost domestic carrier may charge for bags that were free on your international flight. With gifts and winter luggage, that adds up fast.
Our advice: book one ticket unless there is a very good reason not to. Ask us, and we will show you both prices.
Arriving at Kempegowda International Airport
Bengaluru’s airport sits well north of the city, near Devanahalli. After immigration and customs, you have a few ways into town.
- Pre-paid or app taxis. The simplest option with luggage and children. Counters sit just outside arrivals. Agree the fare or use the app before you get in.
- Airport bus. The airport bus network serves several parts of the city at low cost. Fine for a solo traveller with one bag. Harder with a family and six suitcases.
- Family pick-up. The classic. Share your flight number so they can track it, and agree on a meeting point. Arrivals gets busy.
Allow real time for the drive. Central Bengaluru is often an hour or more. Whitefield and Electronic City can take longer at peak hours, as both sit on the far side of the city from the airport.
6 tips for BC's tech workers, students and families
1. Tech workers: land on a weekend
If you are flying for work and adding family time, try to arrive on a Saturday. You recover from jet lag before Monday, and you get the first two days with family rather than in the office.
2. Students: use MannPass
Verified students and education staff in Canada can join MannPass for free. It takes CAD $25 off eligible return flights between Canada and India. It is valid for 30 days from verification, students re-verify each term, and it cannot be combined with other promotions.
3. Families: choose the layover for the youngest traveller
A toddler does not care about the airline. They care about somewhere to run. Pick a hub with good family facilities and a layover of three to five hours. Long enough to stretch, short enough not to lose a day.
4. Older parents: ask for assistance when you book
Wheelchair help, aisle seats and special meals are all easier to arrange at booking than at the gate. Tell us and we will add it across every leg.
5. Check documents before you check fares
Canadian passport holders need an Indian visa or OCI card. Use the official Indian visa website and nowhere else. Read the Government of Canada’s travel advice at travel.gc.ca before you fly.
6. Think about the return before you leave
Bengaluru’s winter is mild. Vancouver’s is not. Pack the coats so they are easy to reach on the way back, and leave room for what comes home with you.
