Flights Edmonton to Delhi: Airlines, Journey Times and the Best Way to Connect

Flights Edmonton to Delhi Airlines Journey Times and the Best Way to Connect

There is no non-stop from Edmonton. Here is how Alberta families get home to Delhi, and on to Punjab, with the least fuss.

Quick answer: what is the best way to fly from Edmonton to Delhi?
There is no non-stop flight from Edmonton to Delhi. The most common route is a short hop to Vancouver, then Air Canada’s non-stop to Delhi, about 20 hours 40 minutes. You can also connect through Toronto or Montreal on Air Canada or Air India, or through a Gulf or European hub such as Doha, Dubai, Amsterdam or Frankfurt. Book it all on one ticket so the airline rebooks you if winter weather delays your first leg.

Is there a non-stop flight from Edmonton to Delhi?

No. Edmonton International (YEG) has no non-stop service to India, so every journey has at least one stop. That is not a bad thing. The right one-stop route is smooth, and the short first leg lets you stretch before the long flight.

The real question is “which connection”. For most Edmonton families that means Vancouver or Toronto, with the Gulf and European hubs as a third option when fares or dates line up better.

Your three main routes from Edmonton to Delhi

Here is how the options compare. Journey times are typical totals including the connection and change with the schedule, so treat them as a guide.

Route

Airlines

Typical total time

Good for

Edmonton – Vancouver – Delhi

Air Canada (non-stop Vancouver to Delhi)

About 20 h 40 m

Shortest and simplest. One short leg, then one long flight.

Edmonton – Toronto or Montreal – Delhi

Air Canada, Air India (non-stops to Delhi from Toronto and Montreal)

Roughly 21 to 24 h

More flights each day. Handy if you want Air India or a different departure time.

Edmonton – Gulf or European hub – Delhi

Qatar Airways, Emirates, Etihad, KLM, Lufthansa, British Airways and partners

Often 24 to 30 h, sometimes two stops

Can be better value on busy dates. Useful if you would rather land in Amritsar.

On our homepage Today, Vancouver to Delhi was showing from CAD $989 per person, checked 30 September 2026, prices change daily. The Edmonton leg is extra, so search your full trip at manntravel.ca/flights for a live price.

Vancouver or Toronto: which connection is better for Edmonton?

Both work well. The difference comes down to time and choice.

Choose Vancouver if you want the shortest door-to-door journey. The Edmonton to Vancouver leg is under two hours, and the Air Canada non-stop to Delhi does the rest in one go. It is the easiest option with children and older parents.

Choose Toronto or Montreal if the Vancouver flight is full or expensive on your dates, you prefer Air India, or you are visiting relatives in Ontario on the way. There are more daily departures to Delhi from Toronto, but you fly east for about four hours before turning towards India.

Choose a Gulf or European hub if the Canadian non-stops are sold out for Christmas, or you want to fly straight into Amritsar. Several Gulf carriers serve Amritsar, which saves the Delhi to Punjab leg.

6 tips for flying Edmonton to Delhi this winter

1. Keep the whole trip on one ticket

Book Edmonton to Delhi as a single booking, not two separate tickets. If snow or de-icing delays your first flight, the airline must get you on the next connection. On two separate tickets, that problem is yours.

2. Give yourself a winter buffer at YEG

December to February in Edmonton means cold snaps, de-icing queues and the odd blizzard. Choose a connection of at least three hours rather than the tightest on offer. Arrive early, and if a storm is forecast, call us. We can often move you to an earlier domestic flight.

3. Know what to expect at Delhi Terminal 3

Air Canada and Air India flights arrive at Delhi’s Terminal 3. Immigration queues can be long when several long-haul flights land together in the early hours. Have your passport, visa or OCI card and arrival details ready. If someone is meeting you, agree a pick-up point in advance. The arrivals area is busy.

4. Plan your onward trip to Punjab

Many Edmonton families are heading to Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana or Chandigarh. From Delhi you have three choices: a domestic flight to Amritsar or Chandigarh (about an hour in the air), a train from New Delhi station, or a car. If you fly, check which terminal the domestic flight leaves from. Some use Terminal 1, and moving between terminals takes time. We can add the domestic leg to your booking so it is all on one itinerary.

5. Book early for the Christmas break

Alberta schools break up in late December and families all want the same dates. Seats on the Vancouver and Toronto non-stops go first. If you are travelling over Christmas, book in October or November for the best choice of dates and airlines. We cannot promise the lowest fare, but waiting rarely helps in December.

6. Students and teachers: use MannPass

Verified students and education staff in Canada can join MannPass. It takes CAD $25 off selected return flights between Canada and India. The pass is valid for 30 days, can be renewed, and cannot be combined with other promotions. Heading home from the University of Alberta, MacEwan or NAIT for the winter break? It is worth a look.

Flying with family from Edmonton to Delhi

Most of our Edmonton bookings are families: children, parents and grandparents together. A few things that make the trip easier:

  • Put everyone on one booking. Seats stay together and changes are simpler.

  • Ask for wheelchair assistance when you book. It is free and covers the connection. Older parents should not be walking long distances between flights.

  • Order special meals early. Vegetarian, Jain, Hindu and diabetic meals must be requested before departure, not on board.

  • Check baggage rules before you pack gifts. Allowances vary by airline, and the domestic leg in India may have a lower limit.

  • Check your documents. Canadian passport holders need an Indian visa or OCI card. Read the Government of Canada advice for India at travel.gc.ca before you go.

  • Dress in layers. You leave Edmonton at minus 20 and land in Delhi at plus 15. Keep a light jacket in your hand luggage for the Delhi fog season.
