6 tips for a smoother Toronto to Mumbai trip

1. Pick your days first

The non-stop only flies three days a week. Choose your day, then work your leave and school dates around it. If those days don’t suit, a one-stop trip through Delhi gives you more choice.

2. Book December early

December is when school breaks, Christmas holidays and wedding season all meet. The cheaper seats go first. If you are planning a winter trip, read our guide to Christmas flights to India from Canada.

3. Check your baggage allowance before you pack

Allowances depend on the airline, the cabin and the fare type. On a one-stop trip, the domestic leg may have different rules. Check your ticket before you buy gifts, and weigh your bags at home. It saves stress at the Pearson counter.

4. Get your visa or OCI sorted early

Canadian passport holders need an Indian visa or an OCI card. Apply through the official Indian visa website well before you fly, and check the latest entry rules there.

5. Plan around the early-morning return

The return from Mumbai leaves at 4:00 am. That means leaving home around midnight. Tell the family, book a car, and rest the evening before.

6. Students and teachers: use MannPass

Verified students and education staff in Canada can join MannPass for free. It takes CAD $25 off selected return flights between Canada and India. It is valid for 30 days, renewable, and can’t be combined with other offers.

Arriving in Mumbai with family

You land after a long flight, often tired, sometimes with little ones or grandparents. A little planning makes the first hour much easier.

  • Book everyone on one booking. It keeps seats together and makes changes simpler.

  • Ask for help at the airport. Travelling with elderly parents? Ask us about wheelchair assistance and special meals when you book.

  • Arrange your pickup before you fly. Mumbai traffic is heavy, especially in the afternoon when the non-stop lands. Share your flight number with whoever is collecting you.

  • Carry some rupees and a working phone. Sort out a local SIM or roaming before you leave Canada, so you can call family as soon as you land.

  • Need a hotel for the first night? If family lives outside the city, a night near the airport can help everyone rest. See our hotels page.
