Why wedding season flights fill up so fast
From December to February, it can feel like half of Surrey and Brampton is flying to India. Punjabi weddings in Punjab. Gujarati weddings in Gujarat. Receptions in Delhi and Mumbai. Add Christmas, the school winter break and Lohri, and seats go quickly.
A family of four can usually find something at the last minute. A group of fifteen or twenty cannot. The bigger the group, the more you need the same flights on the same dates, and the fewer seats there are left to choose from. That is why group planning should start now, not in November.
Step one: build the guest list the right way
Most group booking problems start with the list, not the flights. Pick one “booker” for the family. Usually it is the person who is calm, organized and good at chasing cousins. That person collects the details and talks to us. Everyone else sends their information to them.

Looking after elders, kids and wedding luggage
A wedding trip is not a normal holiday. You are carrying outfits, gold and gifts, and often travelling with grandparents and small children. These tips help.
1. Carry the wedding outfits on board
Lehengas, sherwanis and turbans for the main day should go in your carry-on where possible. If a checked bag is delayed, the wedding still goes ahead.
2. Keep jewellery and cash with you
Never pack gold, jewellery or cash in checked luggage. When you come home, declare goods you bought abroad to Canadian customs.
3. Check baggage for gifts and sweets
Allowances vary by airline and fare type. Some family members may have more than others on the same trip. Weigh bags at home and share the load.
4. Book help for elderly relatives early
Ask for wheelchair assistance and special meals when you book, not at the airport. Seat grandparents near family, and pack their medicines in hand luggage.
5. Plan around school
Winter break helps, but many weddings run into January or February. If the kids will miss school, talk to the school early and bring some work along.
6. Get travel insurance for everyone
