There is no non-stop flight, but there are three good ways to get there. Here is how Edmonton families reach Amritsar with the least fuss.
Quick answer: how do I fly from Edmonton to Amritsar?
No airline flies non-stop from Edmonton to Amritsar. Most travellers take a short domestic flight to Vancouver or Toronto, then a non-stop to Delhi (Air India from Vancouver, Air Canada from Toronto), then a one-hour flight or a train to Amritsar. Plan for 20 to 28 hours door to door. In December and January, allow a buffer for Punjab’s winter fog. Edmonton fares are quoted on request. Call (604) 265-9000 or search flights.
Is there a non-stop flight from Edmonton to Amritsar?
No. Edmonton International (YEG) has no long-haul service to India, and no Gulf airline flies from Edmonton either. We checked current route listings Today and could not find one. So every trip to Amritsar starts with a connection through a bigger Canadian hub.
That is not bad news. Vancouver and Toronto both have non-stop flights to Delhi, and Delhi to Amritsar is a short hop. For many Alberta families, the Vancouver route is the natural one. It is a short first flight, and our Surrey team is right there if anything needs sorting on the way through.
The three main ways to fly Edmonton to Amritsar
Here is how the routes compare. Times are typical, not exact. Airlines adjust schedules by season, so always check live options before you book.
Route | Stops | Total time | Good for |
Via Vancouver | 2 (Vancouver, Delhi) | About 20 to 24 hours | Shortest first leg. Indian meals and Hindi/Punjabi crew on the long sector. Air India flies about five days a week, so dates matter. |
Via Toronto | 2 (Toronto, Delhi) | About 22 to 26 hours | Daily non-stop to Delhi. Handy if you have family in Ontario to see on the way. |
Via Toronto or Montreal and a Gulf hub | 2 to 3 | About 24 to 28 hours | Can be good value. Some Gulf routings land straight into Amritsar, which skips the Delhi leg. Ask us which ones. |
A fourth option is to fly into Delhi and take the train north. The journey to Amritsar takes around six to seven hours on a fast train, and some families prefer it to another flight after a long day. Delhi to Amritsar by air is about an hour and ten minutes.
What do flights Edmonton to Amritsar cost?
Edmonton fares are quoted on request, because the best price depends on your dates, your connection city and how early you book. Call us or send an enquiry and we will price the whole trip, Edmonton to Amritsar, as one ticket where we can.
For reference, the Vancouver connection leg is the busiest part of the journey. Vancouver–Delhi return fares start from CAD $989 per person, checked 7 October 2026, prices change daily. Add the Edmonton–Vancouver sector and the Delhi–Amritsar hop and you have a rough idea of the total. We will give you the exact number.
Two things move the price most. The first is timing: December and the week before Vaisakhi in April are peak. The second is flexibility: shifting by a day or two, or choosing the Toronto route when Vancouver is full, often makes a real difference.
Arriving at Amritsar airport
Amritsar’s airport is Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International (ATQ). It is about 11 km from the Golden Temple, roughly 30 to 40 minutes by taxi depending on traffic. Prepaid taxis and app cabs are available outside arrivals. If family is collecting you, give them your flight number so they can check the arrival time, because winter delays are common.
If you connect in Delhi, your bags are usually checked through to Amritsar when both flights are on one ticket. If they are on separate tickets, you will collect and re-check them in Delhi. Allow at least three hours for that.
Winter fog in Punjab: plan for it
From mid-December to late January, dense morning fog settles over Delhi and Punjab. Flights into Delhi can be held, and the short Delhi–Amritsar flights are sometimes delayed or cancelled. Trains run late too.
It does not mean you should not travel. It means you should build in slack. Choose an afternoon Delhi–Amritsar flight rather than an early morning one, do not plan a wedding or a function for the day you land, and book travel insurance that covers delays. Our blog on travel insurance for your India trip from Canada explains what to look for.
6 tips for families flying Edmonton to Amritsar
1. Book the whole journey on one ticket
One ticket means one booking reference, bags checked through, and the airline is responsible if a delay makes you miss a connection. Separate tickets can look cheaper and cost more when something goes wrong.
2. Ask for wheelchair assistance when you book, not at the airport
Travelling with parents or grandparents? Request wheelchair help at booking. It is free, and it covers the long walks at Vancouver, Toronto and Delhi. Staff will also help with the connection.
3. Leave a buffer in December and January
Give yourself a spare day on arrival and on the way home. Fog delays are the single most common problem we see on this route in winter.
4. Check passports and visas early
Canadian passport holders need an Indian e-visa or an OCI card. Apply through the official Indian visa website a few weeks before you travel. Check that every passport, including children’s, is valid for six months beyond your return date.
5. Plan your langar visit for a quiet hour
Harmandir Sahib is open around the clock, and the langar serves thousands of people a day. Early morning and late evening are calmer for seniors and small children. Cover your head, remove shoes and socks, and keep your passport in a secure pouch.
6. Students and education staff: use MannPass
Verified students and education staff in Canada can join MannPass. It takes $25 off selected return flights between Canada and India. It is valid for 30 days, renewable, and cannot be combined with other offers.
