There is still no non-stop from Calgary to Gujarat. From 3 November 2026 there is a new one-connection way home, and a few other good routes worth knowing.
Quick answer: how do I fly from Calgary to Ahmedabad?
There is no non-stop flight from Calgary to Ahmedabad. From 3 November 2026, Etihad Airways flies Calgary to Abu Dhabi non-stop, and Etihad also serves Ahmedabad, so you can travel on one ticket with one connection. Other options connect through Toronto, Amsterdam, Frankfurt or London. Allow roughly 20 to 26 hours door to door. As a reference, Vancouver–Ahmedabad is from CAD $1,186 per person (checked 15 October 2026, prices change daily). Calgary fares vary, so call us for a quote.
Why Calgary families have always needed a connection
Calgary has a large and growing Gujarati community, tied to Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat and the towns in between. Yet no airline flies Calgary to Ahmedabad non-stop. For years, the usual answer was Toronto or Vancouver first, then India, then a domestic flight into Gujarat. Two stops and a long day.
That is changing. For families planning the winter break or Uttarayan on 14 January 2027, it matters.
Etihad's new Abu Dhabi link from 3 November 2026
Etihad Airways starts non-stop flights between Abu Dhabi and Calgary on 3 November 2026, the first Gulf airline to serve Calgary. Reports point to a Boeing 787-9, several times a week. Check the schedule for your exact dates.
Why this matters for Gujarat-bound travellers:
- One connection, one ticket. Etihad flies Abu Dhabi to Ahmedabad, so Calgary–Abu Dhabi–Ahmedabad can be booked as a single itinerary. Bags are checked through, and the airline looks after you if a leg runs late.
- No domestic hop at the Indian end. You land in Ahmedabad.
- No need to go east first. You skip the Calgary–Toronto leg and the long wait that often comes with it.
New routes can price well in the first weeks, but they sell fast once word spreads in the community. If your dates are fixed, do not wait.
Calgary to Ahmedabad: your route options compared
The main ways to get there, with rough total journey times. Times depend on the connection and the day you fly.
Route | Stops | Rough total time | Good to know |
Etihad via Abu Dhabi | 1 | About 20–23 hours | From 3 Nov 2026. One ticket, bags checked through. The simplest option for Ahmedabad. |
KLM via Amsterdam | 1 in Europe, then onward | About 22–26 hours | Into Delhi or Mumbai, then a short domestic flight to Ahmedabad. Ask us whether your dates can go on one ticket. |
Lufthansa via Frankfurt | 1 in Europe, then onward | About 22–26 hours | Same pattern as Amsterdam. Good when Gulf fares are high. |
British Airways via London | 1 in London, then onward | About 23–26 hours | BA does not fly to Ahmedabad. Air India flies London Gatwick–Ahmedabad, which usually means a change of London airport. Ask us before you book this one. |
Via Toronto with Air India | 2 | About 24–26 hours | Air Canada or WestJet to Toronto, Air India to Delhi or Mumbai (Toronto–Mumbai runs 25 Oct 2026 to 26 Mar 2027), then Air India to Ahmedabad. |
Our view: for most Calgary families, the Etihad connection is now the route to compare everything else against. Toronto still makes sense if you are visiting relatives in Ontario on the way, or find a strong fare on your date.
6 tips for booking flights Calgary to Ahmedabad
1. Book the winter break early
Alberta school boards mostly break from around Saturday 19 December 2026 to Monday 4 January 2027. Every family in the community wants the same ten days, and seats tighten through November. The fare you see this month is usually the better one.
2. Fly midweek if you can
Friday and Saturday departures fill first and often price higher. A Tuesday or Wednesday out, and a midweek return, can make a real difference across a family of four.
3. Plan around Uttarayan
Uttarayan falls on Thursday 14 January 2027, after the school break ends. If the kite festival is the point of the trip, think about a late-December departure and a return around 17 or 18 January, and ask the school about the extra days.
4. Compare the connection, not just the price
A two-stop fare that looks cheaper can cost you a hotel night in Toronto or Delhi if the connection is long. Add up the whole journey. With elderly parents or young children, one connection is often worth the difference.
5. Check your passport and visa now
Canadian passport holders need an Indian visa or an OCI card. Read our guide to the Indian e-Visa for Canadians and check the Government of Canada’s advice at travel.gc.ca before you fly. Passports need at least six months left.
6. Students and education staff: use MannPass
Verified students and education staff in Canada can join Mann Travel. Offer It takes CAD $50 off selected return flights between Canada and India. Each pass is valid for 30 days, can be renewed, and cannot be combined with other promotions.
Arriving in Ahmedabad: the airport, taxis and the first hour
You land at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPI), only about 10 km from the city centre. Most of Ahmedabad is within 30 to 45 minutes by road, traffic allowing.
- Prepaid taxis. Use the prepaid counter inside the terminal. Pay a fixed fare, hand the slip to the driver. Easiest with luggage and family.
- Family pick-ups. Share your flight number, not just the time. Winter fog in north India can delay connections through Delhi, and family can track the flight.
- Onward to Vadodara, Surat or Rajkot. Ask us about adding a domestic leg or a train.
Travelling as a family: baggage, gifts and the practical bits
Most Calgary bookings are for parents, children and grandparents together. What we see every winter:
- Check baggage before you buy gifts. Allowances differ by airline and fare type, and a one-ticket itinerary follows the main carrier’s rules. See our baggage guide for Canada to India.
- Gifts in checked bags, documents in carry-on. Sweets and sealed packaged food are usually fine in checked luggage. Keep passports, OCI cards and medicines with you.
- Book everyone on one booking. It keeps seats together and makes changes simpler.
- Ask for help with elderly parents. Wheelchair assistance and special meals are requested when you book, not at the gate.
- Think about insurance. A long journey with a family is exactly when a missed connection or a lost bag stings. Read our travel insurance guide and our India winter packing list.
