Winter Escape to India from Canada: Trade the Snow for Sunshine

Winter Escape to India from Canada Trade the Snow for Sunshine

A simple guide to Christmas and winter-break trips from Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto and beyond.

Quick answer
A winter escape to India from Canada can mean warm days, family time and festive meals while it is freezing at home. December to February is a popular time to visit, so flights and hotels fill early. As of 17 October 2026, Mann Travel showed Vancouver to Delhi from CAD 989 per person (one-way, economy). Check school dates, passports and visas now, and book early.

Why winter is a good time for India

When Calgary, Edmonton and Winnipeg are deep in the cold, much of India is milder and sunny. Southern and coastal areas such as Goa and Kerala are usually warm. Northern cities like Delhi and Amritsar are cooler, with chilly mornings and evenings, but days are often pleasant.

Winter is also a gentle time to travel inside India. Long road trips, temple visits, markets and walks in historic cities are more comfortable when the heat has eased. Many families plan a mix of rest and visits.

Winter is also family season. Weddings, reunions and festivals bring people together. For many of our customers, this is the trip that means going home. It is a chance to see grandparents, share meals and be together for the festive season, which is why we plan these trips with such care.

Where to go, by what you want

Our homepage also shows hotel rates averaging from CAD 43 a night in Kerala, CAD 65 in Goa and CAD 50 in Agra, checked 17 Oct 2026. Rates change and vary by dates.

If you are visiting relatives, you may not need a hotel at all. Many travellers still book a night or two in the arrival city, or a hotel for a short side trip. It keeps everyone comfortable and gives your hosts some space.

Flying from Canadian cities in winter

We depart from Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal, Edmonton and Winnipeg. Prairie travellers often connect through another city, so allow extra time. Winter weather can delay connections, and fog can slow flights in northern India. Build in a buffer, especially for onward trips.

On manntravel.ca today, Vancouver to Delhi shows from CAD 989 per person (one-way, economy), checked 17 Oct 2026. Prices change daily and are higher near school breaks. Fares from other cities vary, so search your dates on our flights page.

Think about timing too. Leaving right after school ends can cost more than leaving a few days later. If your dates are flexible, compare a few options. Even a small shift can change what you pay, though we cannot promise any fare.

Six tips for a smooth winter trip

  1. Book early. Winter and Christmas dates are in demand. Earlier is usually better.
  2. Check school dates. Break dates differ by province and school board, so confirm yours before you book.
  3. Check your passport and visa. Use indianvisaonline.gov.in for Indian visas and travel.gc.ca for Government of Canada travel advice.
  4. Pack for both climates. Wear winter layers for the airport, and pack light clothes for warm areas.
  5. Allow connection time. Winter delays happen on both sides of the trip.
  6. Plan the return. Ask about flexible dates in case plans change.

Travelling as a family

Gifts, sweets and winter clothes for relatives often fill the suitcases. Check the baggage allowance for your fare before you pack, and leave a little space for the return trip. Carry valuables and documents in your cabin bag.

Winter trips often mean three generations travelling together. Pick flights that suit children and grandparents. Ask for seats together, and tell us about any help older travellers may need.

Students and education staff may find savings with Mann Travel Offer: $50 off selected return flights between Canada and India, valid 30 days, renewable, and not combinable with other offers.

Pack a small day bag for the plane with medicines, snacks, a light blanket and chargers. Keep warm coats handy for the Canadian airport, then plan to store or carry them. Dress in layers so you can adjust as you land somewhere warmer.
