Diwali 2026 Flights from Canada: Five Weeks Out, How to Still Get Home

Diwali 2026 Flights from Canada Five Weeks Out How to Still Get Home

Not booked yet? You are not alone, and you are not too late. Here is what is realistic now, week by week, for families flying from Toronto, Vancouver and across Canada.

At a glance: can I still get Diwali flights from Canada?
Yes. Diwali 2026 is Sunday 8 November, five weeks from today. The best seats on the obvious dates have gone, but there are still good options if you move a little. Fly a week early. Come back after Bhai Dooj on Wednesday 11 November. Look at one-stop routes through the Gulf, and at a second Indian airport near your home town. Mixing two airlines can work too. Book this week, not next.

First, the honest picture

Every October we get the same call. “We thought we would wait for a sale. Now everything is expensive. What do we do?”

Here is where things stand five weeks out. The non-stop Toronto to Delhi flights on Air India and Air Canada, and Air India’s Vancouver to Delhi service, still have seats on most days, but the lower fare classes on the weekend before Diwali have mostly closed. One-stop routes through Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha have more seats left, because there are simply more flights. And the return is often the harder half, because everyone wants to fly back the weekend of 14 and 15 November.

So the plan is not “find a cheap fare on the perfect dates.” The plan is “find a fair fare on dates that work.” Those still exist.

Diwali 2026 dates for your calendar

Dhanteras is Friday 6 November, Choti Diwali Saturday 7 November, and Diwali (Lakshmi Puja) Sunday 8 November. Bhai Dooj closes the festival on Wednesday 11 November. Because Diwali falls on a Sunday this year, the weekend of 7 and 8 November is the single busiest arrival window from Canada.

Five weeks to Diwali: your week-by-week rescue plan

Week

What is realistic

Do this

Week 1: 2 to 8 October

Best remaining choice of airlines and dates

Decide your travellers and your flexible date range. Get two or three quotes. Book if one fits. Start your e-Visa if you need one.

Week 2: 9 to 15 October

Non-stop fares climbing, one-stop still reasonable

Lean on Gulf routes and midweek dates. Consider flying into Mumbai, Ahmedabad or Amritsar instead of Delhi if that suits your family.

Week 3: 16 to 22 October

Fewer seats on direct flights, returns getting tight

Book the outbound and return separately if that unlocks a better combination. Ask us about mixing airlines.

Week 4: 23 to 29 October

Peak pricing on most dates

Fly out as early as 26 to 30 October. Return after Bhai Dooj, ideally midweek, 17 to 19 November.

Week 5: 30 October to 5 November

Last seats, highest fares

Call us. Group desks and airline waitlists sometimes release seats that never show online.

Diwali week: 6 to 11 November

Travelling

Keep our 24/7 number saved. Winter weather at home can delay the first leg.

Six moves that still work five weeks out

1. Fly a week early, come back after Bhai Dooj

Leaving Canada between 26 and 30 October and returning from 17 November onwards avoids both rushes. You also get the full five days of the festival at home, not just the weekend.

2. Choose one-stop over non-stop

The non-stop Toronto to Delhi and Vancouver to Delhi flights sell out first. Emirates, Etihad and Qatar Airways fly from Toronto and Vancouver to many Indian cities through their hubs. More flights means more seats and more price points.

3. Land at a different Indian airport

Delhi is the obvious choice, which is the problem. If your family is in Punjab, look at Amritsar. If they are in Gujarat, fly into Ahmedabad, see our new Toronto to Ahmedabad route guide. Mumbai, Bengaluru and Kochi often have seats when Delhi does not. A domestic flight or train can cost less than the difference.

4. Mix airlines on the way out and back

You do not have to fly the same airline both ways. Flying out on one carrier and back on another can open up dates that a single-airline return never shows. We do this for families all the time.

5. Travel midweek and overnight

Tuesday and Wednesday departures usually have the lowest fares left. Overnight departures from Pearson or YVR are often cheaper than daytime ones too.

6. Students and teachers: use MannPass

Verified students and education staff in Canada can join MannPass for $25 off selected return flights between Canada and India. It is valid for 30 days, renewable, and cannot be combined with other offers.

Today’s live fares on manntravel.ca show Vancouver to Delhi from CAD $989 per person one way, Vancouver to Mumbai from CAD $996 and Vancouver to Ahmedabad from CAD $1,186, all checked 2 October 2026, prices change daily. Toronto fares are not listed on the homepage today, so call us for a live quote.

Leaving Canada in November: the practical bits

  • Allow extra time at Pearson and YVR. Early November can bring the first snow. Give yourself three hours before a long-haul departure, more if the forecast is poor.

  • Leaving the car? Compare long-term lot rates against a park-and-fly hotel, or take the UP Express to Pearson and the Canada Line to YVR. Two weeks of airport parking adds up.

  • Wear the winter coat, do not pack it. It is warm on the plane and warm in India. Wear it to the airport and leave it with whoever drops you off, or carry it on board.

  • Dress for both ends. Boots and a coat at the curb, light layers underneath for a 30-degree arrival.

  • Check the latest travel advice for India at travel.gc.ca before you fly.

Carrying gifts and sweets from Canada

Half the joy of going home is what you bring. A few things we tell our customers:

  • Check your baggage allowance first. Most full-service airlines on these routes include two checked bags in economy, but it depends on the fare type. It is shown on your e-ticket.

  • Maple syrup, honey and jarred goods go in checked baggage. They count as liquids in the cabin.

  • Mithai from a GTA or Surrey sweet shop travels well in checked bags if it is boxed and wrapped. Dry sweets survive better than milk-based ones.

  • Keep receipts for electronics and jewellery and declare what you need to on arrival. If in doubt, ask us before you shop.

Your documents: do this today

Canadian passport holders need an Indian e-Visa unless they hold an OCI card. Apply now at the official Indian visa website, not through a look-alike site. Your passport must be valid for at least six months from your arrival date, with two blank pages. If you have an OCI card, check that it matches your current passport. If you are travelling with children, check every child’s document as well.
