There is no non-stop flight from Winnipeg to India. Here is how Manitoba families get home anyway, with the fewest surprises along the way.
Quick answer: how do I fly from Winnipeg to India?
Winnipeg (YWG) has no non-stop service to India, so every trip has at least one connection. Most Manitoba families fly Winnipeg to Toronto and then non-stop to Delhi or Mumbai on Canadian or Indian carriers. Others connect through Vancouver, or through a European or Gulf hub. Total travel time is usually 19 to 30 hours. Book the whole journey on one ticket so you are protected if a Winnipeg snow delay makes you miss your connection.
Is there a non-stop flight from Winnipeg to India?
No. Winnipeg Richardson International Airport does not have a direct flight to any Indian city, and none has been announced. That is not unusual. Most Canadian cities outside Toronto and Vancouver are in the same position.
So the real question is not “which airline flies non-stop”, but “which connection suits my family”. There are three main patterns, and the right one depends on where in India you are going, who is travelling, and how much time you want to spend in airports.
We book all three every week from our Surrey, BC office. Here is how they compare.
Three ways to connect from Winnipeg to India
Connection | Legs | Typical total time | Pros and cons |
Via Toronto | 2 (YWG–YYZ, then non-stop to Delhi or Mumbai) | About 19 to 24 hours | Shortest overall. One stop, one bag check. Toronto has the most India non-stops in Canada. Busy airport, so allow a generous connection in winter. |
Via Vancouver | 2 (YWG–YVR, then non-stop to Delhi) | About 20 to 26 hours | Good for Delhi and Punjab. You fly west first, which can feel backwards, but the Pacific routing is often smooth. Fewer Indian cities served non-stop than Toronto. |
Via a European or Gulf hub | 2 or 3 (YWG to Toronto or Calgary, then hub, then India) | About 22 to 30 hours | Opens up Amritsar, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kochi and Bengaluru with one change in the hub. Often the best value. Longer total journey and usually one extra take-off. |
For Amritsar specifically, most Manitoba families either connect through Delhi with a short domestic flight, or fly through a Gulf or European hub that serves Amritsar directly. Ask us which is working best on your dates.
Why one ticket matters in a Winnipeg winter
This is the part we most want Manitoba travellers to understand. It is tempting to book a cheap Winnipeg to Toronto flight separately, then a separate ticket from Toronto to India. On paper it can save money. In January, it can cost you the whole trip.
If your first flight is delayed by snow or de-icing and you miss the international flight, two separate tickets mean two separate problems. The international airline treats you as a no-show. You buy a new seat at that day’s price, if one exists.
On a single through-ticket, the airline that sold you the journey is responsible for getting you to India. If the Winnipeg leg runs late, they rebook you on the next available flight at no extra fare. Your checked bags are tagged all the way to Delhi, Mumbai or your final airport, so you are not collecting and re-checking suitcases in Toronto. And at check-in in Winnipeg, you get boarding passes for every leg.
In winter, that protection is worth more than any small saving from splitting the booking.
6 tips for Manitoba families flying to India
1. Allow at least three hours to connect in winter
Many fares will sell you a 90-minute connection in Toronto or Vancouver. In July that is fine. From December to March, we recommend three hours or more between your Winnipeg arrival and your India departure. If a longer connection means an earlier morning flight out of Winnipeg, take it. Missing the long-haul is far worse than waiting at the gate.
2. Fly out the day before if the stakes are high
Travelling for a wedding, a funeral or a ceremony you cannot miss? Consider flying Winnipeg to Toronto the evening before and staying overnight near the airport. It adds a hotel night but removes the biggest risk on the trip. We can add the hotel to your booking through manntravel.ca/hotels.
3. Keep everyone on one booking
Parents, children and grandparents should be on the same reservation. Seats stay together, meals and wheelchair requests are linked, and if anything changes, one phone call fixes it for everyone.
4. Check the baggage rules for every leg
On a through-ticket, the international allowance usually applies to the Winnipeg leg too, which is good news if you are carrying gifts. Confirm it before you pack, because allowances vary by airline and fare type.
5. Travelling with seniors? Ask for help at every airport
Wheelchair assistance can be booked for Winnipeg, the connecting airport and your arrival city. It makes long terminal walks and connection changes far easier. Tell us when you book and we will add it to the record.
6. Students: join MannPass before you book
Verified students and education staff at Canadian institutions can join MannPass for free. It takes CAD $25 off eligible return flights between Canada and India. Verification is valid for 30 days and students re-verify each term. It cannot be combined with other promotions.
Manitoba's growing link to Punjab and India
Winnipeg’s Punjabi and Indian community has grown quickly over the past decade. Families who settled in Manitoba for work, and the many international students at the University of Manitoba, the University of Winnipeg and Red River College Polytechnic, all share the same need. They want a reliable way home, and someone who understands the route.
That is where a specialist helps. A general booking site will show you a Winnipeg to Delhi itinerary without telling you that the connection is too tight for January, or that the fare does not include a checked bag on the first leg. We check those things before we send you a quote.
For reference, our Vancouver fares to India today are from CAD $989 per person to Delhi and from CAD $996 per person to Mumbai (return, checked 5 October 2026, prices change daily). Winnipeg-origin fares are quoted on request, because the right connection and date make a real difference to the final price. Send us your dates and we will come back with options.

frequently asked questions
Are there non-stop flights from Winnipeg to India?
No. All flights from Winnipeg to India involve at least one connection, usually in Toronto or Vancouver, or through a European or Gulf hub.
What is the fastest way to fly from Winnipeg to Delhi?
Usually Winnipeg to Toronto, then a non-stop flight to Delhi. Total travel time is typically 19 to 24 hours depending on the connection.
How long should my connection be in winter?
We recommend at least three hours between your Winnipeg arrival and your international departure from December to March. Snow and de-icing delays are common.
Should I book Winnipeg to Toronto separately to save money?
We do not recommend it. On one through-ticket, the airline rebooks you free if a delay causes a missed connection, and your bags are checked through to India. Separate tickets carry none of that protection.
How much are flights from Winnipeg to India?
Winnipeg fares are quoted on request because the connection and date matter. For reference, Vancouver to Delhi is from CAD $989 per person return, checked 5 October 2026, prices change daily.
Fares and availability change daily and depend on the airline, date and fare type. Flight times are typical ranges and vary by schedule. Always check live prices and current travel advice before booking.
